The joint program in medicine is designed to encourage highly qualified students to receive a BS from Old Dominion University and an M.D. from Eastern Virginia Medical School. Students apply during their sophomore semester at Old Dominion University. Upon successful completion of requirements and graduation from Old Dominion University, a student accepted into the ODU/EVMS Joint Program in Medicine will be guaranteed admission to Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Family and General Practitioners
Physicians who diagnose, 治疗, and help prevent diseases and injuries that commonly occur in the general population. May refer patients to specialists when needed for further diagnosis or 治疗ment.
Surgeons
Physicians who 治疗 diseases, injuries, and deformities by invasive, minimally-invasive, or non-invasive surgical methods, such as using instruments, appliances, or by manual manipulation.
Physician Assistants
Provide healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician. Conduct complete physicals, provide 治疗ment, and counsel patients. May, in some cases, prescribe medication. Must graduate from an accredited educational program for physician assistants.
Obstetricians and Gynecologists
Physicians who provide medical care related to pregnancy or childbirth and those who diagnose, 治疗, and help prevent diseases of women, particularly those affecting the reproductive system. May also provide general medical care to women.
